Conversation with Kimberly Poston Miller
Kimberly Poston Miller
Kimberly Poston Miller is the mother of two children who live with juvenile arthritis and other related autoimmune conditions. Through the management of her sons’ chronic illnesses, she has become not only an active and inspired advocate for arthritis awareness, but also a seasoned expert on finding and maintaining balance within a family that is beset by extreme circumstances and often overwhelming challenges.
As a representative for the Chicagoland Arthritis Foundation Regional Advocacy Committee, a juvenile arthritis blogger, and active participant in juvenile arthritis and juvenile myositis communities within Facebook and other social networks, Kimberly promotes awareness and understanding of pediatric rheumatic conditions while keeping current with real issues that concern families affected by JA. Active in fundraising efforts for the Arthritis Foundation, CureJM, and the Juvenile Arthritis Association, the Miller family also participates as “Arthritis Ambassadors” for the national Arthritis Foundation, participating regular assignments and in the annual summit in Washington D.C., lobbying for legislation that will further research and potential treatments for these conditions.
In September of 2013, Spry Publishing released Kimberly’s first book Living With Juvenile Arthritis: A Parent’s Guide, a comprehensive guide to raising a child with juvenile arthritis. One of the few books of its kind, this guide not only helps parents cope with managing their child’s illness, but also helps families learn how to live and thrive despite the condition.
Despite frequent moves around the country as an NFL wife, Kimberly has completed coursework towards a Master’s degree in Medical Informatics from Northwestern University, a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Tampa, and an M.B.A. from Baylor University. She has also served as the Regional Director of Nurses for Newborns of Tennessee, and served as a volunteer in a number of other child-welfare related organizations.
