A Celebrity-Filled 50th Anniversary Tribute to Mr. Rogers Will Air on PBS in March
Fred Rogers, who passed away 15 years ago on February 27, created a beloved children's show that will forever be remembered for its zip-up cardigans and quirky puppets. But more importantly,Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001, will be celebrated for its lessons in empathy and its ability to cover topics that still resonate today with adults and children alike.
The iconic series turns 50 years old this year, and plans have already been announced to honor Mr. Rogers with a biopic starring Tom Hanks, a commemorative stamp, and a documentary. PBS will also celebrate the life and legacy of the late television personality with a celebrity-filled, hour-long special that will debut in March 2019.
Cast members from the original show will share their personal perspectives in the new program, "Mr. Rogers: It's You I Like," as a tribute to television's longest-running children's series. The project will also feature interviews with celebrities who cherish their own memories of screen time spent with Mr. Rogers.
The star-studded special will include tributes and performances from Judd Apatow, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Bennett, Yo-Yo Ma, Sarah Silverman, and Joyce DiDonato. Joe Negri (“Handyman Negri”), David Newell (“Mr. McFeely”) and Joanne Rogers will also share their personal stories fromMr. Roger's Neighborhood.
